From the 8 bit era we had Matchday or Microprose Soccer, the arcades had Kick and Run or Tecmo World Cup and even on the next-gen super consoles there is FIFA and Pro Evo. But for our Clash of the Titans feature we pit the the two big hitters from the 16-bit era against each other when we ask…

Sensible Soccer or Kick Off 2?

Whether you were a lover of the Commodore Amiga or the Atari ST, in terms of football games, 16 bit gamers leant one way of the other, Kick Off or Sensi. In the video below from the Weekend Gamer archives, Gordon nails his colours firmly to the goalpost.

This video was originally created for Weekend Gamer WebTV series 2.

Both franchises may be over 20 years old, but they are here to stay as the original developers of both games have resurrected their games for the consoles of today:

Kick Off creator Dino Dini released Kick Off Revival for PS4 in 2016 and despite a rocky start the game has built up a hardcore following.

Jon Hare, co-founder of Sensible Software is aiming to release Sociable Soccer in 2017 for numerous systems and (amazingly) VR headsets.
