Bottle Rocket

Bottle Rocket (1996)

GENRE: Comedy, Crime

DIRECTOR: Wes Anderson

WRITER: Owen Wilson, Wes Anderson

STARS: Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, Robert Musgrave, James Caan

PLOT: Anthony (Luke Wilson) has just been released from a mental hospital, only to find his wacky friend Dignan (Owen Wilson) determined to begin an outrageous crime spree. After recruiting their neighbour, Bob (Robert Musgrave), the team embarks on a road trip in search of Dignan’s previous boss, Mr. Henry (James Caan). But the more they learn, the more they realise that they do not know the first thing about crime.

For our 8th film club outing we have Wes Anderson’s first feature film, co-written by Owen Wilson, the 1996 wacky crime comedy Bottle Rocket.

Chosen by Simon Burton, Bottle Rocket is available on DVD for around £6 or you can rent the film on Amazon Instant Video for around £2.50.

You can hear the teams thoughts on the film in Episode 9 of the MovieMuse podcast, so check it out and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

  • Simon: "I find it quite a fun film"
  • Graeme: "I've never enjoyed any film Owen Wilson has been in"
  • Mat: "Way too much talk and not enough action"
  • Gordon: "sits somewhere between good and pretentious claptrap"

Too much talking at the expense of action and a disappointing finale resign Bottle Rocket to the lower end of our league table.
