MovieViews

The MovieMuse Reviews (MovieViews) database is a searchable collection of films that the team have watched, providing a comprehensive guide on what to watch and what to avoid. It provides a link to an in-depth review or a short opinion on the film and a rating, as well as a link to the film’s poster or DVD cover. For more recent entries we are also including a link to the film’s IMDb page and a trailer from YouTube.

You can search and sort the list by individual film names, genre, reviewer, score and other variables to inform you on whether a film is worth your time, or to inspire you for your next movie night.

We will also use the database to create periodic lists of the recommended films in all sorts of categories. These lists will be shared on the website and some will even come with a video.

PosterMovieYearGenreCommentsRating
Kill Your Friends 2015 4, 5, 20 Self indulgent and self important. A bit like the A&R men it portrays. 5
Kindergarten Cop 2 2016 4 Does everything the first film does, just not as well. 4
Kitchen Stories 2003 4, 7, 10 Odd, slow, thoughtful, beautiful, brilliant. 8
Kubo and the Two Strings 2016 1, 2, 8, 9 A great story made all the better by a talking monkey and beetle, though I don't buy the point of claymation when you are going to meld it with CGI. 8
The Dinner Game (Le Diner de Cons) 1998 4, 10 An enjoyable but pretty standard farce that would have benefitted from showing the titular dinner itself rather than just the build up. 6
Let's Be Evil 2016 11, 17, 20 High production values, but a story that ultimately goes nowhere. There is definite tension but nothing ever comes of it. 4
Level Up 2016 20 Other films have done the story much better. Nothing to do with video games despite marketing to the contrary. 4
Lo and Behold, Reveries of the Connected World 2016 6 Interesting and contained a few things that I hadn't heard before, but I don't feel I learned anything. 6
London Has Fallen 2016 Action, 5 The tagline (Prepare For Bloody Hell) is the best thing about the film. After the surprising delight of Olympus, London is a let down in all possible ways. 3
London Town 2016 7, 12 A childish film trying to exist in an adult world and fails miserably. 3
Long Kiss Goodnight 1996 Action, 4 The film has more cheese than necessary and Gena Davis is beyond poor, but there is enough action and excitement to make it worthwhile. 5
Look Who's Back 2015 4, 7, 10 This faux-documentary about Hitler returning to modern day Germany is almost too real and is all the more terrifying for it. 8
Mad Max: Fury Road 2015 Action, 1, 17 Click to see our detailed review. 8
Made 2001 4, 5, 7 Favreau and Vaughan doing what they do. Could be Swingers: 10 Years Later. 7
Maggie 2015 7, 11 A very different take on the zombie genre. Focuses on how the infected live rather than what happens when they die. Arnie is superb and should take on more of these understated roles. 8
Magnificent 7 2016 Action, 1, 22 Despite being in the vast wilderness of the wild west the film seems to struggle with scale, coming off as a much smaller film than the original. 5
Marauders 2016 Action, 5, 20 Run of the mill bank job with a terribly out of place Bruce Willis. 5
Marvellous 2014 3, 7 A heartwarming tale that uses real people and archive footage to emphasise that however remarkable the story may seem, it is in fact true. 8
Mascots 2016 4 Christopher Guest’s least subtle but most endearing ‘mockumentary’ yet. O’Dowd’s fake Irish accent is a bit off putting though, especially as he is actually Irish. 7
Mean Girls 2004 4 Trite, stereotypical and often insulting to the viewers intelligence. God help us if the rumoured sequel sees the light of day. 4
Midnight Cowboy 1969 7 Superb performances, but the haphazard direction stops it being a true classic. 8
Midnight Special 2016 1, 7, 13 Despite some awful child acting and a horribly fluffy ending, I like the film more than I wanted to. Has a great score too. 6
Miller's Crossing 1990 5, 7, 20 This talky mob film is a pleasant surprise and the script will keep you entertained when the direction falters. 7
Minority Report 2002 Action, 17, 20 One of Tom Cruise's better attempts at Sci Fi and a thrilling ride as we get a great glimpse into a possible future and its moral dilemmas. 8
Mississippi Grind 2015 7 The quality of the characters shines from start to finish in a road movie of friendship, highs, lows and hope. 9
