MovieViews

The MovieMuse Reviews (MovieViews) database is a searchable collection of films that the team have watched, providing a comprehensive guide on what to watch and what to avoid. It provides a link to an in-depth review or a short opinion on the film and a rating, as well as a link to the film’s poster or DVD cover. For more recent entries we are also including a link to the film’s IMDb page and a trailer from YouTube.

You can search and sort the list by individual film names, genre, reviewer, score and other variables to inform you on whether a film is worth your time, or to inspire you for your next movie night.

We will also use the database to create periodic lists of the recommended films in all sorts of categories. These lists will be shared on the website and some will even come with a video.

Eye in the Sky 2016 7, 20, 21 It is inconceivable that things would go down the way the film presents, but as entertaining theatre it is a thrilling adventure with many moral questions. 7
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2016 1, 8, 9 A weak first hour, but it all comes together in the second. The plot is far too X-Men for my liking. 7
Frank and Lola 2016 7, 14 Well acted and presented relationship drama, but also pretty eventless. 7
Friday 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan 1989 11 Not scary, thrilling, funny, entertaining fun. But more importantly it isn't even in Manhattan! 3
Green Room 2016 5, 11, 20 A crocodile of a movie. Long periods of calm punctuated with violent bursts of energy. Beautifully shot and sickeningly gruesome. 8
Grimsby 2016 Action, 4 A pathetically weak script and cringeworthy 'big' jokes are made almost watchable by high production values and exciting action sequences. 4
Grudge match 4, 19 funny, well acted and has some great nods to classic boxing films. The meat locker seen is genius. It is a shame that reviewers fixated on comparing the film to Rocky and Raging Bull rather than enjoying the film for what it is. 8
Hail, Caesar! 2016 4, 13, 15 The Coen's love letter to Hollywood. A caricature of classic cinema done in a respectful way. 9
Hard Tide 2015 7, 20 The low budget and poor acting don't ruin a nice British thriller with a great soundtrack. 6
Hardcore Henry 2016 Action, 17 Click to see our detailed review. 3
The Hateful Eight 2015 1, 7, 13 Click to see our detailed review. 7
Hell or High Water 2016 5, 7, 22 A modern day western that is slower than a summer Sunday in Texas. In a good way. 8
Hello My Name is Doris 2015 4, 7, 16 Pleasant and harmless tale of old lost soul falling for young free spirit. 6
High Fidelity 2000 4, 12 A standard rom-com that is desperate to be seen as more. Fun and has a few stand out laughs, but just not enough. 6
High-Rise 2016 7 Style over sense that suggests that Ballard's book should be left alone by the movie industry. 5
Hollywoodland 2006 3, 5, 7 Very interesting melodrama about the death of George Reeves. Presents 3 possible conclusions and lets you make up your own mind. 7
Homefront 2013 Action Stallone wrote the screenplay but I am glad he handed the role to Statham as it suits him perfectly. 7
Hunt for the Wilderpeople 2016 1, 4, 7 Sam Neill’s best performance since Jurassic park and full of the kind of wacky humour that only the Ozzies and the Nozzies can make. 9
Hush 2016 11, 20 A good premise that fails to live up to its promise, but remains entertaining throughout. 6
I am Not a Serial Killer 2016 7, 11, 20 Its low budget, slow pacing and supernatural twist detract from a great performance by Christopher Lloyd. 5
I, Robot 2004 Action, 17 A bit too 'set-piecey' in places, but Smith is great in a slightly more serious role but the Audi product placement gets a bit incredulous. 7
I, Daniel Blake 2016 7 Will make you laugh, cry and rage about the hypocrisy and bureaucracy of the welfare state as a man who is too unwell to work finds he is not entitled to incapacity benefits and a young mother struggles to provide for her kids. 9
If Cats Disappeared from the World 2016 7, 9, 10 Beautifully shot and expertly told tale of love, loss, life and death. 8
Imperium 2016 5, 7, 20 A decent enough telling of a true tale, though Radcliffe's transformation from weedy geek to white supremacist is all a little too easy. 6
In a Valley of Violence 2016 Action, 22 Part ‘First Blood in the wild west’ and part animal talent show. Almost pulls it off. 6
