MovieViews

The MovieMuse Reviews (MovieViews) database is a searchable collection of films that the team have watched, providing a comprehensive guide on what to watch and what to avoid. It provides a link to an in-depth review or a short opinion on the film and a rating, as well as a link to the film’s poster or DVD cover. For more recent entries we are also including a link to the film’s IMDb page and a trailer from YouTube.

You can search and sort the list by individual film names, genre, reviewer, score and other variables to inform you on whether a film is worth your time, or to inspire you for your next movie night.

We will also use the database to create periodic lists of the recommended films in all sorts of categories. These lists will be shared on the website and some will even come with a video.

The Program 2015 3, 19 The cycling is well shot, but the film is let down by poor acting and direction. 5
Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie 2016 4 A blatant vanity project for Jennifer Saunders with very little genuine entertainment. 4
The Puffy Chair 2005 4, 7, 16 Interesting road movie/relaitionship flick with some great performances. Like most mumble-core it makes you decide more than it tells you. 7
AdULTHOOD 2008 5, 7 More heart and smoother direction than KiDULTHOOD, but just as gritty, violent and real. 8
The Purge 2013 11, 20 A brilliantly realised scary concept with dangerous social parallels to modern America. 8
Algorithm 2014 20 Either a good student project or a poor professional release. You decide. 4
The Purge: Anarchy 2014 11, 20 A 'Warriors' style cross town journey through hell that may not reach the heights of its predecessors, but has enough of its own thrills. 6
Alien 3 1992 Action, 11, 17 Tries to blend the claustrophobic tension of the first film and the action of the second, yet fails to reach the heights of either. Click to see our Box Set review. 6
The Purge: Election Year 2016 11, 20 Whilst it adds nothing new to the series, Election Year is a more than satisfactory conclusion to the trilogy. 6
Alien Resurrection 1997 Action, 11, 17 Click to see our Box Set review. 5
The Reluctant Fundamentalist 2012 20 A classy way to show how it is possible to fall in and out of love with America and how not being with us doesn't not necessarily mean being against us. 7
Aliens 1986 Action, 11, 17 Click to see our Box Set review. 8
The Revenant 2015 1, 3, 7 Click to see our detailed review. 8
America 3000 1986 Action, 1, 17 An entertaining and well made b-movie that follows all the standard tropes, but is no worse for it. 6
The Shallows 2016 1, 7, 20 Beautifully shot and avoids falling for most of the obvious temptation to go down the horror route to deliver a genuinely exciting shark survival thriller. 8
American History X 1998 5, 7 Brutal start and slow thoughtful end doesn't make for the best entertainment, but it serves the narrative far more. A little too convenient in places, but hits hard enough when needed and has some great performances from its leads. 8
American Ultra 2015 Action, 4, 17 Like a feature length episode of Chuck with all the jokes removed and replaced by gore. 4
The Train to Busan 2016 Action, 10, 11 More heart than most Zombie films and doesn’t over-rely on CGI. It can be long before it gets a Hollywood remake. 8
Amy 2015 6 Whilst it offers small glimpes of insight, it is a documentary by numbers that avoids any level of detail. 5
The Trust 2016 5, 20 Excellent heist movie with a twist. Great performances from Cage and Wood who play the opposite of what you would expect. 8
Anomalisa 2015 2, 4, 7 A small but perfectly chosen voice cast complement the wonderful animation and Charlie Kaufman’s excellent script. Plus, You've never seen a more real and touching sex scene that the one between two puppets in this film! 9
The Survivalist 2015 7, 20 A gripping, raw drama that is masterfully told without explaining how it all came about. 8
Ant-Man 2015 Action, 1, 4, 17 An amazing model city scene and some great humour, but not quite the all round super film. Ant Man 2 could be great though. 6
The Warriors 1979 Action, 20 Great cult 70s gang thriller whose style is only let down by terrible fight choreography and a dreadfully schlock performance from Roger Hill as Cyrus. 8
Anthrapoid 2016 3, 20 Proof that not all heroic true tales are exciting. Or particularly interesting. 5
