2019 BAFTA Awards Review

Just as the Academy love to judge the film makers on their output, here at MovieMuse we also like to don our judges wig as we assess the nominations and eventual winners in each of the main categories. By clicking on the images below you can choose the category you are interested in and jump to a page that details the nominees, our choices for the winners and the mini reviews of each film from each of the MovieMuse team that have seen them. We have also run the rule over the American academy’s performance in our 2019 Oscars Review. The EE British Academy Film Awards took place on Sunday 10 February at the Royal Albert Hall, London in a ceremony hosted by Joanna Lumley and broadcast live on the BBC.

The Favourite was quite literally the favourite, with nominations in 12 categories. Bohemian Rhapsody, First Man, Roma and A Star Is Born each had seven nominations; Vice got six, BlacKkKlansman five, and Cold War and Green Book four each. Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Mary Poppins Returns, Mary Queen of Scots and Stan & Ollie all received three nominations each.

2019 Report Card:

With just 4 of the 20 awards matching with our own choices you may feel we were drastically out of touch with BAFTA. However most of the other choices were our 2nd pick and only on 2 occasions did we feel the academy had made a huge mistake. We have therefore have rated this year’s British Academy performance as a B-.
